Golden Retriever Training Using Simple Commands

One of the cutest as well as one of the smartest breed of dogs is the golden retriever.

After they have learned the basic commands, golden retrievers can be the most obedient of all dogs you meet, although they may require a little more time to train.

You should keep in mind that reward training is a better method for training golden retrievers than leash training.

Every time your dog correctly follows your command you should give him a treat, making sure he understands that whenever he does what you say he will get that treat.

One of the most important training techniques is to teach you dog some basic commands such as sit, stay, lie, and others.

These are especially important if you are crate training your golden retriever puppy.

To crate train, place some of the puppy\’s favorite toys inside the crate so the puppy will want to go there. Then train him to stay in the crate by himself after you leave.

A crate-trained dog will be in a safe place when you are not at home and there will be a place for him to go when you have guests so he will not be a pest.

When you have guests coming over, or when you are leaving home, take the puppy to the crate, and tell him that you are taking him to his home.

After doing this a number of times, the puppy will learn what going home means, and as you give the command to go home, he will start going to the crate on his own.

It is probably best to begin with the go command and when the puppy knows where to head, you can follow and help guide him to the crate.

Teach him the stay command as soon as you get him inside so he will not leave the crate when he sees you leaving him.

Once he knows these commands, continue the training with other commands like lie and sleep to help ensure the puppy will stay in the crate until you tell him it is okay to come out.
